The Mirror

Before the mirror
she regards her face
as if for the first time

Wrinkles and lines
betray her age and
she fears her gaze

Betrays her soul
and inner thoughts
revealing too much

Reminders of loves
both joys and torments
pre- and post-betrayals

She sees and feels
the burden of years
plagued by regret and guilt

Yet accepts the truth
it’s too late to dwell
in yesterday’s debris

She smiles then turns
walking away
to embrace the future.
